First Day in Lisboa

After arriving at hotel Zurique a few of us from the group decided to do a little bit of sightseeing. Being our first day and all, we didn’t really know where to go or what to do. We finally found our way to the metro and located a part of the map we wanted to see. We ended up asking the janitor of the metro how to get there and she told us the stops we had to take. Figuring out where we wanted to go was easy, but determining the tickets to purchase on the other hand, was rather difficult. All of us were unsure what buttons we needed to press to get the right ticket. Finally we figured it out and all boarded the metro. Taking the metro is a lot like taking the “Boston T”. It consists of red, yellow, blue, and green lines. Personally, I think that the metro here is a lot easier than the one in Boston. We finally got to our stop but didn’t know where to go to from there. We just ended up wandering around the city. I saw a lot of cool things, old statues, beautiful buildings, and more. We ended up at this really cool place by the water that had colorful funky looking chairs. There were a few men fishing and others were relaxing and enjoying the day in the chairs. We continued to walk around the center until we found a place to eat. My food was good, I ordered a steak plate, but not everyone was lucky as me. At the end of our meal we tipped our waiter six euros. He questioned our generosity which we were confused about but Joey assured him that he did an exceptional job and deserved the tip. Little did we know, tipping is a custom not followed in Portugal to the same extent as in the United States. Needless to say, we will no longer be giving our euros away to other waiters.
